All chagim have their own charm and a teaching lesson. One of the lessons for Sukkot is that life is not always secure. The sukkah is one of the least stable housing features, and yet, it is amazing how the sukkah have survived all periods in our history. Security is always in our minds but the sukkah reminds us that we can survive insecurities too. It is a lovely Holiday, and I love the notion of inviting our ancestors to rejoice with us. I believe the answer to question 4 is incorrect. Hoshana Raba precedes Shemini Atzeret. If you are counting Hoshana Raba as another day of Sukkot, then why give it a name with special rituals? So, IMO, Shemini Atzeret does NOT immediately follow Sukkot. Reply
